The placeholder has a map now

In July I wrote that this blog would be the placeholder for the trip, because I hadn’t figured out social media. I still haven’t. Instead there is now a page:

sabbatical.maximilian.tech

The site itself is just static files served out of an object storage bucket. The updates come from a Hermes bot on Telegram, running on a Mac mini in Vienna: we send it photos and voice messages from wherever we are, it transcribes them, files them under the right stop and publishes.

The short version of the route so far, for anyone who doesn’t want to click: Maria and I left Vienna in early September, spent most of the month in Vietnam, had a few days in Hong Kong, took trains across China for most of October, and have been in Peru since. Right now we are at Lake Titicaca. The page is the better version of this paragraph.

If you zoom over to North America you will find next year’s road trip sketched in pencil. Red is only for where we have actually been.

Regular tech content still resumes around mid-2027. Until then, the map.
